Prof. Sir Manuel Freire-Garabal y Núñez has been officially elected and appointed as the new Chancellor of the ASEAN University International (AUI).

The President of the ASEAN University International shared in a public communication that AUI is overwhelmed to have such a great Chancellor as the developer of their University’s international and academic mission.

H.E. Prof. Sir Manuel Freire-Garabal y Núñez HOKC, LLB, MBA, PhDH, FRAS, FRSA, FRAI, MRSAI holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from A Coruña University, he is graduated in Journalism from the National Journalists Association of Cuba in Exile and has an MBA in “International Construction Management” from the European University. He completed over 300 courses and specialisations in business, management, education, health, or security from IVY league universities and top-ranked European Business Schools. He received two Doctor Honoris Causa Degrees in the field of diplomacy.

Since his beginnings in the educational field, he works in Law and Education research. Currently, he is a professor and senior advisor at various universities in Asia-Pacific and North America. He lectured and participated in events at the Davos World Economic Forum and universities like MIT, Harvard, Oxford, or New York University. He has published eleven books and more than seventy professional and scientific articles.

Many of his books become a reference in micro-economy and banking with a particular interest in developing the empowerment of small entrepreneurs and families.

In the field of Health development, he is currently involved in several collaborative clinical studies at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Division of Sleep Medicine, particularly in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a common disorder caused by repeated obstruction of the area of the back of the throat during sleep. The collaborative research team includes Dr Scott Sands as the lead principal investigator, Dr Reza Radmand and Prof. Sir Manuel Freire-Garabal.

He is an elected fellow and member of several British and Irish Royal societies and Spanish and American academies. He has stood out at an early age for been invited to collaborate in media at Harvard, Yale, Berkeley, MSNBC, Microsoft, Le Figaro, or Le Monde. He is a regular contributor to The Economic Times and The Times of India.

He works in wealth management and educational development, serving as the Chairman of the Al-Khalifa Business School Educational Group and advisory board member of multinational companies, UHNWI and Family Offices based in the United States, United Kingdom, India, Madagascar and the United Arab Emirates.

He officially works in the field of diplomacy. He holds various commitments such as Special Envoy of the Republic of Madagascar’s Presidency, personal advisor of the former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and former Prime Minister of Guinea (H.E. Lansana Kouyaté), or President of the Private Council of the Prince Mahmoud Salah Al-Din Assaf.

He works in philanthropy, giving free education and resources to the Middle East, Latin America and Africa. The International Tourism Magazine Dstinos Peru recognised him as “Humanitarian Person of the Year” (2020) and “Personality of the Year” (2021).

He is highly recognised for his remarkable contributions by organisations such as the IDPs National Centres of Iraq, the Pan African Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, or the UNESCO member FUNVIC. Because of his social impact, he was included in many global ranked lists and highlighted and interviewed in media like Forbes, Yahoo, Cosmo, CNBC, CBS, ABC, or Fox News. Additionally, he is a recognised Honorary Ambassador to many organisations with consultative status at the United Nations.

He is an active member of the Lions International Club, which appointed him with many international awards according to his contributions to the United States and the Bahamas in health and humanitarian aid.

He also completed his formation in police and military training assistance in Miami, FL (USA). He received his credentials to serve as a Community Service Policeman (Police Chaplain) endorsed by the Federated Government of the United States and the international organisation of the HAGUE recognised in 197 countries.

He holds different legitimated knighthoods given by religions and representatives for service to the royal houses and States heads.

He has received high civil honours from the Russian Federation, the Russian Orthodox Church, the Federal Governments of Arkansas and Kentucky (USA), the Congress of the Republic of Peru and the local governments of Machu Picchu, Medley and North Miami Beach.
