Dr. Mahender B. Dewal is a Biomedical Scientist and Biotech Entrepreneur with 20 years of interdisciplinary experience in a number of research areas including Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Chemical Biology, Antibody Engineering, Genomics, Transcriptomics and Expansion Microscopy.

Dr. Dewal received his Bachelor’s in Chemistry and Biology as majors from Giriraj Govt. College, Nizamabad. Masters in Inorganic Chemistry from Osmania University Campus Hyderabad. He has received his Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina, USA. He has completed his postdoctoral studies at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA. He has worked as a Research Scientist at the Department of Chemistry, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA. Presently Dr. Dewal is the Founding Member and Head of Research and Development at Expansion Technologies Inc. Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Dr. Dewal also is an affiliate of the world’s renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA. Dr. Dewal’s research lab has been working on developing early detection tests for various cancers including Brest, Prostate, Lung, and Brain etc.

However, As the COVID19 pandemic hit the world in December 2019, Dr. Dewal’s team started working on developing antibody therapeutics for COVID19 infections. Additionally, for the past year, Dr. Dewal has been actively engaged in giving international webinars and participating in many debates on Indian news channels to raise COVID19 awareness such as viral infection mechanisms, precautionary measures and diagnostic tests, vaccines, and therapeutic developments. Dr. Dewal spoke about the challenges of post COVID19 pandemic a 24-hour world book of records event organized by Lead India foundation a brainchild of our beloved 11th president of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Dr. Dewal’s service in the COVID19 fight had recognized him as a “COVID19 WARRIOR” by together Karnataka State Ministry of Youth Empowerment & Sports and the SAARC Nations International Human Rights Association.

Dr. Dewal’s research was published in high-quality and well-reputed journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society, ACS Infectious Diseases, Chemistry & Biology, ACS Chemical Biology, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, etc. His research was featured in research highlights of Nature Chemistry. Dr. Dewal also presently holds four US and international patents.

Dr. Dewal has been President of Wayne State University Postdoctoral Association for the year of 2012, also served as an Advisory board member and Organizing committee member as well. Dr. Dewal also has been Vice President of MIT Venture Ships Club an ASA-recognized independent student group aimed at providing MIT students with working experience in startup companies from 2013 to 2014 and also served as an Advisory Board Member from 2014 to 2015. Dr. Dewal has been a member of the American Chemical Society and a peer reviewer of many international journals.
